NO TURBINES NORTHWEST TASMANIA

This Sunday, independent MP Craig Garland is convening a public meeting for residents and those interested in the current proposal for a mega wind farm for Northwest Tasmania. The wind farm is proposed for one of 5 Renewable Energy Zones, called REZ. The relevant Tasmanian Government website RECfit announced in July 2024 their intention to establish these zones throughout Tasmania, including one in Bass Strait, off the north coast of our island.   The problem? Despite the community requesting more detailed information about these proposals, in order to properly assess whether they actually  want them in the area, the Tasmanian Government, represented by minister Nick Duigan, has refused to meet with the community to discuss and answer their many valid questions.    Northwest Energy Impacts Independent MP and Braddon electorate representative Craig Garland has stepped up.   Robbins Island, off the north coast of Tasmania, is an area of approximately 9,900 hectares and is privately owned by the Hammond family who are keen to "build a legacy for my family." (I heard him say this myself, in a community consultation meeting.) Robbins Island is home to many, many bird species. And so far, with just wool sheep and wagyu cattle farming on the island, little ecological damage has been done. Currently the following bird which species reside, nest or use Robbins Island: ·   Five Islets, located northwest of the island, where the fairy tern and pied oystercatcher permanently nest , along with migratory birds great knot , red knot , bar-tailed godwit , grey plover , lesser sand plover , common greenshank , red-necked stint , Terek sandpiper and ruddy turnstone can be found.
