NO TURBINES NORTHWEST TASMANIA

On 8th July 2024 Minister for Energy & Renewables, Parks & Environment, Nick Duigan, replied to a concerned citizen's letter about the proposed up to 3000 turbine REZ (Renewable Energy Zone) and attempted to justify the state Government's plan to destroy the prime agricultural and wilderness areas of Northwest Tasmania.    In this letter he - a) Failed to understand or properly acknowledge the impact to wildlife and the environment of this proposal for a gigantic wind factory. There was no mention of environmental impact assessments, just a vague statement about "...important flora and fauna..." b) Failed to put forward a valid reason for the destruction of this area of outstanding natural beauty and vital food growing zone. Last night a Community consultation meeting was held in Burnie at UTAS. It was supposed to be an opportunity for landholders to ask questions and express concerns about the current proposal to construct  3000+ wind turbines in a total area of 114,530 hectares of prime agricultural land, native bush and wilderness. And things got heated right from the start. The meeting itself was not advertised locally in media outlets, nor was there a letterbox leaflet letting residents know. At the venue there were NO SIGNS indicating where the meeting was being held. Luckily, most of us turned up early, as we suspected this would happen. The room booked for the event was completely inadequate, with chairs for only 35 people. More than 100 people turned up. Security concerns were expressed at the overcrowding, and despite the group's protests that we did not want to be separated, a small group went into an adjoining room where they attempted to follow proceedings on a large screen.
