I post an email from a friend which arrived in my inbox today. VERY important issue about fire safety and wind turbines on your property and properties nearby.

I recently came across some information that I think is very important for all of us to be aware of regarding the heightened risk of fire resulting from wind turbines. Not many people know that if a fire breaks out, whether due to the wind turbines themselves or from any other source, water bombing and other aerial support to firefighters may be difficult or even impossible in the vicinity of wind turbines. Much of Tasmania is due to eventually be covered by Renewable Energy Zones. (Please see AEMO's REZ map attached to this email.) The fire risk that these plans are likely to create is a serious problem for our entire state.

A shredded turbine blade spread six TRUCKLOADS OF DEBRIS, toxic particles of fibreglass, microplastics and more, all over nearby beaches and in the seawater. Now authorities are assessing the impact upon sealife, including seafood. PUBLIC CONSULTATION MEETING regarding renwable Energy Zone Burnie Tasmania

This Sunday, independent MP Craig Garland is convening a public meeting for residents and those interested in the current proposal for a mega wind farm for Northwest Tasmania. The wind farm is proposed for one of 5 Renewable Energy Zones, called REZ. The relevant Tasmanian Government website RECfit announced in July 2024 their intention to establish these zones throughout Tasmania, including one in Bass Strait, off the north coast of our island. The problem? Despite the community requesting more detailed information about these proposals, in order to properly assess whether they actually want them in the area, the Tasmanian Government, represented by minister Nick Duigan, has refused to meet with the community to discuss and answer their many valid questions.
